This is what is so sad. The Ukrainians will die by the hundreds of thousands for Globohomo, and end up being robbed and impoverished by Western parasites - and never let into either the EU or NATO.
The image of back rooms, will lots of deals being made to benefit the few comes to mind. On all sides....

This was an ancient bit of paranoia dating to the colonial era in most third world countries. Lots of them ended up by effectively banning foreign investment upon achieving independence.
It was also typical Soviet and Maoist anti-western propaganda. Promoting such expressions of anti-western paranoia was a big part of the communist messaging.
As a practical matter these policies are extremely stupid, to a degree I can only describe as cretinous. But emotions are powerful, and reason can only do so much.
