it would be disingenuous for conservatives to celebrate without acknowledging the essential role McConnell has played in shaping today’s Court.

The GOP Moderates-When the cards were down, the GOP moderates helped push Trump’s nominees through with razor-thin majorities.

The Bush Family-While the Trump era Supreme Court nominees were essential to overturning Roe v. Wade, the Bush family was responsible for appointing two other conservatives: Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito.

This writer covers all bases. You can hold your nose regarding Collins and Linda but it explains how the game's played.

Have McConnell and Linda outlived their usefulness? 15 years between the Clarence Thomas/Alito appointments. Bushes gave us Souter/Roberts-honest misses? I will say this: We're lucky to have Collins. She really threaded the needle on Kavanaugh. Murkowski never prevented anything but proudly displayed her uselessness.

*Had the #NeverTrump ‘conservatives’ had their way, we would have a very different Supreme Court and very different rulings on Dobbs*
The neverTrumpers included the Bush clan. Throw in Murkowski.

*McConnell has played in shaping today’s Court. In an act of extraordinary political courage, he gambled by blocking the confirmation of Obama nominee Merrick Garland in 2016.*
Still he’s now minority leader-his own doing.

*When the cards were down, the GOP moderates helped push Trump’s nominees through with razor-thin majorities* Lisa/Mittens. Just look at their gamesmanship when they knew their votes wouldn’t change anything.

As mediocre as McConnell is, he was a big factor in keeping Merrick Garland off the SCOTUS. Frightening to think of Garland with a lifetime appointment to the Court

Liberals are short sighted. They think they will live forever and not be old and dependent on the younger generations to live, so they couldn’t care less what type of country they leave behind.

Going to the mat-not a GOP trait. There is a Profile in Courage from time to time.

I just looked up the GOP senators who voted against Bork-1987. Arlen Specter, Bob Packwood, John Chaffee, John Warner(Va.). Was Packwood worth standing up for when he played grab-ass with women? Virginia was red at the time. Deep blue state senators voting against Bork proved we needed 55+ seats. Bork got 42. 2 of them were Earnest Hollings and David Bored-red state senators.

No mention of Bush’s Souter = fail. The difference between previous Republican appointees and Trump’s is that while Trump’s aren’t perfect, there are zero libs or moderates. Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett all voted to overrule Roe v Wade, end affirmative action in schools and universities, for the first time create a significant freedom of speech exception to anti-discrimination laws, effectively struck down a ton of gun laws in the broad Bruen decision, etc.

Souter is the most egregious example, but of course there was O’Connor and Kennedy for Reagan and Roberts for Shrub.

I do agree that McConnell deserves a ton of credit

This can't be said enough:

While past GOP presidents have whiffed on appointing true conservatives to the Supreme Court, Trump was 3-3 and courageously stood by Kavanugh in 2018 and Barrett in 2020 (both major election years) despite a media firestorm.
