If he was saying that, then I totally agree with you. But perhaps he is not meaning “dying”, but rather just “parting”.

The poem has nothing to do with death. (My choice of hint may have been confusing.) The author is going on a journey abroad, (probably to France) and saying goodbye to his lady, with the understanding that he will return to her. Though in those days, that was less certain, and communication sketchy at best.
