That “common genetic lineage” ended with the births of Isaac and Ishmael.

Isaac was born heir to the Promise according to the Covenant between God and Abraham (to his Seed)
While Ishmael was the product of the flesh, conceived OUTSIDE of the promise between God and Abraham.
Ishmael was the byproduct of Abraham’s Egyptian handmaiden named Hagar.
Galatians 4:27-29
