Without the Moon the highest life form on this planet would be the cephalopods and octopuses. The Moon stabilizes Earth’’s orbit.
Without is restraining gravitational effect our orbit would be chaotic with parts of the planet being under a sheet of ice or hundreds of feet of water. But when it comes to taking bullets for us that would be Jupiter. Jupiter is our cosmic shortstop. Life on the planet would have come to an end in 1994 by comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 if it weren't for the real "Big Guy''.
