The strike group should be off of Iran’s coast to wipe out their refineries. Israel can handle Gaza.
The strike group is not threatening Gaza (as you correctly note Israel is more than capable of hitting Gaza), it is threatening anybody who might be tempted to intervene on the side of Hamas.
Why wipe out their refineries?
They need to take out the three uranium enrichment facilities and the facility where all the nuclear scientist work.
