Tucker Carlson reminds me of Pat Buchanan after Reagan left office, from 1988 through the early 2000s. Pat was no longer the Press Secretary. He held no influential position of influence, not that I thought he really had any influence. Buchanan acted like he alone defined what Republican and conservative meant, what positions to hold, and that he had the authority to impose them. When the GOP ignored him he responded by undermining whoever was at the top of the GOP hierarchy.

How many remember Buchanan's speech at the 1992 Republican convention? The one that Molly Ivins said “probably sounded better in the original German”? Listening to it at the time, she was not wrong. I think this is where Carlson is. He's too full of himself, thinking he has influence and authority, and mad at everyone who disregards him. The difference is 30 years later the corruption is worse.

Come to think of it, much of the "conservative press" is the same.

Buchanan’s speech at the ‘92 convention was great. He went after Bubba and Hitlery, talked about freedom and the greatness of America. What was wrong with that? Buchanan was a formidable opponent for Dad Bush. He certainly would have been a better President.
