When I was in a NYC Starbucks in the mid 2000s, I saw a stack of New York Times for sale. The cover had a photo of a blinded American veteran, a young man returned from the Iraq War. The article said that veterans were going to grammar schools, teaching kids about the importance of the war.

Remember how everyone was screaming that we were going to spread Freedom! throughout the world. A New World Order (as Bush 1 put it), in which the Axis of Evil -- Evil itself! -- would cease to exist.

That's what they told this blinded veteran. So many young Americans enlisted enthusiastically, and when they returned blinded and maimed, they kept telling themselves it was worth it for the glorious future to come.

Wonder how they feel about their sacrifices now? Bitter and forgotten, I suppose.

That about sums it up.

Some of the statements here, and by politicians, baffle me.
This is “true evil”. Why, because it happened to Jews?
Mao, Pol Pot, Charles Taylor, Idi Amin, etc. What were they?

Those that scream the loudest here for war are old men and women.
You know, the ones that don’t have to go die.

As for Israel, they don’t need our help, and I completely disagree that they are our “greatest ally”.
I always see that, but only get emotional responses and no proof when I ask how.
