The Russian “Firehose of Falsehood” Propaganda Model

Distinctive Features of the Contemporary Model for Russian Propaganda

High-volume and multichannel
Rapid, continuous, and repetitive
Lacks commitment to objective reality
Lacks commitment to consistency.

Thanks for posting the link. The article is well worth reading.

From it: "The experimental psychology literature suggests that, all other things being equal, messages received in greater volume and from more sources will be more persuasive. Quantity does indeed have a quality all its own." From "The Russian "Firehose of Falsehood" Propaganda Model," RAND, (link courtesy of MeganC).

"I post 2 summation daily events articles: 'Update from Ukraine'-Denys Davydov & 'Reporting from Ukraine'.”

And so on, going back for months. Reprising from the RAND article, ""The experimental psychology literature suggests that, all other things being equal, messages received in greater volume and from more sources will be more persuasive. Quantity does indeed have a quality all its own." .

"The Daily Davydov" is "reporting," while sourced articles from Reuters, Politico, Guardian Uk, Bayer, Bretton Woods, USAID, CNBC, FreeWest, AllAboutFeed, Business Insider, InForum, NBC News, Financial Times, Cargill, Oakland Institute, il Manifesto (Italy), Legal Home, IntelliNews, AlJazeera, MROnline, Twitter posts, NewColdWar, ModernDiplomacy.eu, American Enterprise Institute, Inventure, Barrons are "agitprop." That's the argument.

Other "from more sources," as RAND mentions, in these daily Davydov-headlined threads are, as examples of greater volume and quantity, posted almost daily now:

Davydov (YouTube channel which uploads in Switzerland), Divine Justice (YouTube channel which uploads from the United States), The Enforcer (YouTube channel uploaded from the United States), President of Ukraine Official Website, Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, UATV English (YouTube channel uploaded from Ukraine), СОБЕСЕДОВАНИЕ В РДК | НОВАЯ ЖИЗНЬ НА СТОРОНЕ ДОБРА, В СОСТАВЕ РДК (YouTube channel uploladed from Poland), Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, Communications Department of the Secretariat of the CMU, Reporting from Ukraine (YouTube channel uploaded from the United States), Warthog Defense (YouTube channel which uploads from the United States), Kanal13 (which uploads from the United States), Oracle Eyes (YouTube channel which uploads from the United States), and many cited, as RAND says in another context, "quantity does indeed have a quality all its own."
Such are the differences between agitprop and a worldwide press. Since RAND is a resource, here is another from RAND:
Five years ago, RAND published a seminal document describing Truth Decay, and former President Obama put it on his summer reading list. Since then, our RAND colleagues have examined the intersections of Truth Decay with media literacy, individual resistance, and vaccine hesitancy. In our new report, we examine this phenomenon specifically in the context of national security, finding that Truth Decay adversely affects the day-to-day business of national security and major decisionmaking at every level.

Two core drivers of Truth Decay are political polarization and the spread of misinformation—and these are particularly intertwined in the national security arena. Exposure to misinformation leads to increased polarization, and increased polarization decreases the impact of factual information. Individuals, institutions, and the nation as a whole are vulnerable to this vicious cycle. More:

Truth Decay and National Security

I find especially interesting how RAND finishes its article with this advocacy:
"Legal institutions can play a positive role here, by raising the penalties for those who spread harmful false information when that speech specifically threatens or terrifies others. The U.S. system, however, is uniquely protective of speech, so social and political norms play a greater role in countering Truth Decay. Political figures could use their podiums to frame factual information as nonpartisan in order to stall or slow the polarization–Truth Decay cycle. At the same time, the bipartisan January 6 select committee, which spent 18 months interviewing over a thousand people and reviewing countless documents before releasing an 845-page final report (PDF), does not seem to have corrected false opinions that voter fraud changed the outcome of the 2020 election or opinions about President Trump's role in the events of the January 6 insurrection—suggesting that there are limits to the impact of traditional political mechanisms at truth-finding."
",,,messages received in greater volume and from more sources will be more persuasive. Quantity does indeed have a quality all its own." Since I openly attest that both the Putin and Zelensky governments are corrupt (and the EC of the European Commission and our very own Biden regime as well), this is a problem for the "pick one of two," when another view is heard. As Mr. Robinson has said, this is a "controversial" war.
