President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had an emergency phone call with Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Prime Minister informed the President about the situation in Israel and the actions of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies to repel the attack.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed Ukraine’s solidarity with Israel, which is suffering from a brazen large-scale attack, and condolences over the numerous victims. He noted the cooperation between the Israeli police and Ukrainian diplomats on the security and protection of Ukrainian citizens in Israel.
The interlocutors also discussed the impact of the attack on Israel on the security situation in the region and beyond.

Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, chaired a regular meeting of the Coordination Headquarters for Ensuring the Rights and Freedoms of Internally Displaced Persons.
The event gathered together representatives of the Ministry for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories, the Ministry of Social Policy, the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Social Service, the Pension Fund, the State Employment Service, the Oshchadbank, regional military administrations, and other agencies and organizations.
Among other things, the meeting participants discussed the issue of paying accommodation allowances to IDPs. They also considered the possibility of extending the timeframe for physical identification of recipients of pension and social benefits at Oshchadbank.
They also considered possible amendments to the Government’s resolution on places of temporary residence for IDPs.
In addition, they focused on proposals for amendments to regulations on the employment of internally displaced persons..

I just watched the video on the Aerial spies (drones), at comment #27. It was interesting to see how the small drone settles gently into the palm of the operator. It made me think of the knights of old whose falcons would land on the arm of their knight when their hunt was finished. This video is followed by a half hour video showing graphically how Israel is fighting back after the surprise attack yesterday.
Now I am going to go turn on the heat in my bathroom to enjoy a warm bath, and will come back to watch a half hour more of the videos while the room heats up. Thank you for putting the running times on the videos, it really helps make viewing planning easier.
The 9:9 minute video in comment #4 does a particularly good job of showing Ukrainian and Russion armor and artillery in action. Action maps of recent fighting I found to be a little more easy to follow than some I have seen.
Near the end was a report on activities leading up to the March 2024 election for leader of Russia. Apparently there are plans to ask prospective voters their opinion about various scenarios of candidates and terms for the prospective president. Could it be that Putin might actually decide not to run? Listen yourself and tell us your thoughts on what these election plans might mean. This video is followed by a half hour video with Condoleezza Rice.

Government fulfills social obligations to Ukrainians: Denys Shmyhal

The Government meets its social obligations to Ukrainians and makes social policy more effective. This was emphasized by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a Question Time with the Government at the Verkhovna Rada on October 6.
According to him, over the first eight months of 2023, UAH 346.5 billion (more than 18% of total expenditures) was allocated from the general fund of the state budget for social security, of which UAH 181 billion was allocated for pensions and more than UAH 117 billion for various types of benefits.
“We are simultaneously changing the system, making it more transparent and efficient. We are pursuing a new philosophy of social policy,” said Denys Shmyhal.
Among the innovations is the centralization of social payments through the Pension Fund of Ukraine. Carrying out digitalization, in particular, creating a Unified Social Information System that will unite all registers, making the process of providing social support transparent and understandable. Implementation of the principle “money follows the person”.
“We plan to create a competitive market for social services. They will be purchased by a single centralized purchaser, and the services will be provided by individuals, NGOs and communities themselves,” the Prime Minister said.
The reform of the pension system is also on the agenda. According to the Head of Government, it is planned to introduce a points-based system for the pay-as-you-go pension. This means that the amount of the pension will depend on how much money a person has paid as a contribution, on which points will be calculated, and how many years this person have worked.
An important area of the Government’s work is the veterans’ policy, the key elements of which are the reform of the Military Qualification Commission and the Medical Service Commission and the introduction of the Veterans’ Assistant.
Denys Shmyhal noted that the Government has already introduced a number of economic and social programs, which are used by veterans in particular. Thus, under the eRobota program, UAH 47 million has already been accrued as grant assistance to veterans and their families.
In addition, the eOselia mortgage program has been expanded. War veterans and their families have been granted access to preferential loans at 7% interest rate. Veterans are also priority participants in the eVidnovlennia program.
According to Denys Shmyhal, it is no less important to perpetuate the memory of fallen soldiers, which includes the erection of war memorials, the National Military Memorial Cemetery, as well as renaming streets and installing memorial signs.

I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video I will tell you what happened on the five hundred ninety second day of the war.
Day 592: Oct 08
Today, there is a lot of good news from the Tokmak direction.
Here, the most intense clashes took place between Kopani, Robotyne, and Novoprokopivka. Recently released footage from the area shows intense shelling on the tree lines by multiple launch rocket systems. The video shows that the target of the strike became multiple fields at once, which is a very large area for advancement.
Some sources reported that the shelling was conducted by the Russian artillery in the area of Ukrainian attacks, which is consistent with the claims of Russian sources that Ukrainian forces continue to attack Kopani. Some Russian sources admitted territory loss in this sector for the third day in a row, indicating positive dynamics for Ukrainians.
Today, some Russian analysts started raising the alarm about the situation and even claimed that Ukrainians may soon breach the Russian defense and hit Russian forces in Nesterianka from the back.
However, as you remember, the primary purpose of westward advancement is to negate the possibility of a successful Russian flank attack, and even though Ukrainians have not cleared the whole elevated platform west of Robotyne, today it was confirmed that Ukrainians managed to destroy the Russian assault unit that tried to carry out this operation.
The Russian flank attack came right along this tree line that leads to the extensive trench network between Robotyne and Novoprokopivka. Russians also decided to attack right when Ukrainians conducted another wave of attacks on Novoprokopivka, meaning that they were quite vulnerable. By the way, geolocated footage indicated that Ukrainian forces successfully advanced in this direction, as Russians were shelling the tree line right in front of the houses that Ukrainians used to move back and forth between positions.
In the meantime, Russians opened a sudden vector of attack. The goal of this attack was to establish control over the trenches, cut off the Ukrainian assault units in Novoprokopivka from the mainland, and then take them into a pocket and destroy. Unfortunately for Russians, Ukrainian fighters from the 47th Mechanized Brigade were waiting for this attack and were completely prepared to face it.
Geolocated footage shows that Ukrainians started attacking Russian tanks with kamikaze drones when they just appeared on the horizon almost 2.5 km away from the trench network. The first Russian tank was destroyed, barely entering the area of the tree line that leads to the Ukrainian fortifications. Other Russian tanks and armored vehicles managed to get very close to the fortifications when the first-in-line vehicle got hit and immobilized.
Russian troops realized that they were too far from the trenches and simply could not proceed with the assault and started running away in all directions. The tank behind saw that the assault unit was practically demolished and started turning around. A few seconds later, the tank was hit right in the engine and was immobilized as well. The last tank was stuck in between and tried to provide fire support from a distance, however, Ukrainians immobilized it, then targeted the crew that was running away, and once the crew was dead, they finished the tank.
All destroyed Russian tanks are scattered along this tree line. If we look at the topographic map, we can see that Russians advanced precisely along the ridge of the tactical heights as predicted several days ago. Understanding the potential axis of attack helped Ukrainians to repel it and avoid a potential disaster even without having direct fire control over the road from the fields above.
But the work in the fields west of Robotyne continues. Today, a fighter from the 24th Assault Brigade reported that Ukrainians made progress on the flanks. Once the fields are cleared, any similar Russian attack in this region will end even faster and with more devastating losses.
