I couldn’t swim until I was 22. In army basic training I failed the swim test. I was put in a remedial swim class. Myself and 9 black guys.

Like you said “ most negroes can’t swim”. I can testify to that. In Navy boot camp at Great Lakes Illinois in 1969 I witnessed just about every negro in our company fail the swimming test. Some had to be rolled back and do extra weeks of boot camp because of it. I remember some of them screaming like women and crying like pussies when the instructors pried their fingers from the railing and threw them off the platform into the deep end of the pool. Then when they were almost drowned, the instructors would poke at them with a long pole, let them hang onto it to get their breath, then jerk it away again and watch them flounder around. It was great, and was one of the few times we weren’t punished for laughing our asses off. Oh and most of them eventually did qualify and actually learned to swim.
