“Every day, I hear directly from Portlanders who are concerned about workplace safety - perspectives that I take very seriously,” he said. “As we continue making strides to re-staff the Portland Police Bureau and partner on targeted retail theft missions, we are also implementing increased safety measures like enhanced lighting and foot patrols to create safer public spaces for everyone.”
Too Little, Too Late IMHO.
Broken windows. That’s not possible in blue cities until Democrats are sick and tired of crime. We’ve had a lot of crime in ‘70s and ‘80s. So this could go on for a while.
The criminal element among the less advantaged harm the less advantaged most of all, in every area of crime.
I don’t care. They voted for the lawlessness that has ensued over the years. They need to suck it up now and maybe they’ll realize that elections have consequences.
However, instead, they’ll likely come up with a “Shoplifter Rehabilitation Tax” or some such solution to the problem that they themselves created. It just never ends.
“ As a community, we cannot allow this to continue.”
But that’s exactly what you’re doing.

I am fine with liberal cities eating the results of their recipes.
Those New Yawkers appear to be going full “racist”. Complaining about shoplifters and other criminals as well as trying to keep their beloved miggies out of their city. It’s a little silly when the mayor says that NYC already has all the “diversity strength” they can afford.
The “community” knows who the law breakers are, but refuse to identify them to the police…
Oh, yeah? What are you going to do about it? The most obvious thing is to elect pro-Law & Order people to restore order to society. But you won't like the things the New Sheriff will have to do to restore order. Once order is restored, you'll sack him.
Of course, these days it is a LOT harder to restore order because of federal interference and all the WOKE bull squeeze. It seems as if nobody is even trying to restore order against the spreading forces of darkness.
As Victor Davis Hanson frequently remarks, people finally do get fed up and bring in a New Sheriff to clean things up. But, when things are running well, they quickly become aghast at his uncouth and unconventional methods and get rid of him. It's a theme going back to antiquity and the frequent theme of western movies.
Well, if your gun nazi state allowed people to defend their lives and property without prosecution, you wouldn’t have this problem.
The Left deliberately conflates the two. White liberals vote to let the poor old lady steal a loaf of bread - progressive politicians get kickbacks from the organized crime entities who benefit. A win-win for them. /s
CNN, the authors of this editorial, made the stealing and damage an acceptable behavior because they were mobs of color. Now that the ling term harm has taken its toll, what has changed?
Yesterday’s shoplifter is tomorrow’s car-jacker, who is next year’s armed robber.
Truth. This will continue until the residents figure out that the cops aren’t going to help and there’s no voting your way out of this mess (too late for that; should’ve voted better to start with). Until that point and until the residents take matters into their own hands to put a stop to it, this stuff will continue.
In the meantime, embrace the suck. In the future, vote better.
Yep. Lets look at who they have been voting for the last few decades. My give-a-s**t meter is pegged out at ZERO (0).
“I don’t care. They voted for the lawlessness...”

Ditto that. Wouldn’t shed a tear or donate a dollar to New York even if the entire city burned to the ground.
The only way to stop shoplifting is to have “Free” government stores.
Taxpayers providing the free stuff, of course.
You can buy a lot of votes with that.
If a community doesn’t protect its business from losses, the business have no other option but to leave that community.
“...you made the wine now drink the cup”
A couple of days ago a guy smacked into me in a Walgreen’s as he ran around a corner in the store. Behind him came the employees chasing him.
The first time I saw a shoplifting in action but I know these things occur all the time. Employees leaving, stores closing . . .
it’s like a jungle here. No wait, jungles are beautiful.
