Working this backwards, as applied to your opinions or statements of fact:

Is the Ukrainian flag your flag?
Is Ukraine your nation?
Is Ukraine your problem?

I would imagine your responses to the first two question would likely be no and no. As the the third, your answer would be yes, as you advocate for that for which you advocate. Would any of your answers be opinions? Statements of your stances? Of course. You have a right to them. As does he. Differences of opinion.... Controversy.

There is clearly "...a difference of opinion whether or not the US government should be involved in a controversial foreign war where we were not attacked."
