Reading in Tony Judt's book Post War how Stalin's forces suborned the governments of eastern European and Balkan countries occupied by the Red Army after WW2. First they installed Communists in the police and prosecutor's offices, and proceeded to arrest, imprison, and judicially murder political opponents until "democratic elections" returned enough Communists to the respective legislatures, (with the help of some immodest election fraud). Only the Czechs failed to fall for this, which required overthrowing the Czechoslovakian government by force.
