Correct. Gas turbines use EXTERNAL combustion. That has not changed. The author goofed.
That’s arguable. According to Kawasaki: “Just like a diesel or gasoline engine, a gas turbine is a type of internal combustion engine and operates using the cycle of intake, compression, combustion (expansion) and exhaust. When I was a hatchling an external combustion engine was the steam engine, which were nearly all phased out when I was in grade school. I recall my dad bringing to our attention one of the last Great Northern steam locomotives still working in the mid-50’s. Steam engines for farming were completely replaced by gas IC tractors a little earlier.
