The “Flu Shots” that have been available for decades were/are generally about 20%-30% effective.

I think the point is that the flu shots were 20%-30% effective at preventing the flu. Either you got the flu or not. I don’t think any flu shot ever claimed to make the flu less miserable.
The Flu shots have been designed to help with the previous season’s flu in Australia.
Sometimes they work, sometimes not....
I have never gotten one.
