A transgender American woman has been suspended from her role as Ukrainian military spokesperson after posting a video threatening to 'hunt down' Russians.
Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, 45, has been removed from her post after making a video where she said that the 'Russian devils' will 'pay for their crimes.'
The Ukrainian Army said her words were not approved by higher-ups, though it is unclear exactly which statements provoked the suspension.
Junior Sergeant Sarah Ashton-Cirillo has been suspended from the duties of the spokesperson of the Ukraine Territorial Defense Forces while an investigation is underway,' the Ministry of Defense said.
Ashton-Cirillo also told AFP in a recent interview that she had learned to 'embrace the hate of the Russians' who have mocked her gender identity.
The native New Yorker added that she had editorial control of her own production and aims to avoid a dry, number-based approach to covering the war.
In footage posted last week, Ashton-Crillo said: 'Russia hates the truth that their obsessive focus on a Ukrainian volunteer is simply allowing the light of the Ukrainian nation's honesty to shine brightly.
Her voice trembling with rage, Ashton-Crillo hissed: 'Next week, the teeth of the Russian devils will gnash ever harder, and their rabid mouths will foam in an uncontrollable frenzy as the world will see a favored Kremlin propagandist pay for their crimes.
'And this puppet of Putin is only the first. Russia's war criminal propagandist will all be hunted down, and justice will be served as we in Ukraine are led on this mission by faith in God, liberty and complete liberation.'
