ILLEGAL: The justice system has decided to extend the pretrial detention of the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, who is currently held in San Pedro de Chonchocoro prison as part of investigations into an alleged coup attempt case that never materialized.
This determination follows the statement by the Public Prosecutor’s Office that an additional 90 days (three months) are required due to the complexity of the investigation and the need to gather more evidence before formal charges can be filed.
🚨 Meanwhile, the governor’s attorney, Martín Camacho, has labeled the extension of the preventive detention of the Santa Cruz official as “illegal and unnecessary” and has announced plans to appeal Judge Elmer Laura’s decision.
Camacho is the foremost opposition leader to the socialist government in Bolivia and is detained to prevent him from running in the presidential elections.
