My pug used to dislike only two people: the guy across the street was a drunk and a smoker. That one didn’t surprise me because she really hated cigarette smoke, but there was a lady who lived down the street who seemed nice as could be, always spoke to us when we were out walking. One day I stopped to chat and she bent down to talk to my dog and when I looked down, not only had Pug backed away, but she was standing stiff as a board and her hackles were standing up! I never figured that one out, but I trusted her that the woman was someone I shouldn’t deal with.
I learned to always trust my dog’s defensive instincts. As far as I’m concerned, they give you another bullet point of information to make your decision with. Just be careful that it isn’t your emotions they’re reacting to. You’re in a “Pack” and the next question is: Are you truly its leader? Cesar Milan knows…LOL!
The 2-year old German Shepherd picks up on Crooked Joe’s dislike/distrust of his own Secret Service detail and regards them as “the enemy.”
Joe’s relationship with his “guards” makes me think of Frankie Pantangeli playing cards all day with his “FBI guys” while he waits to testify against the Don. (Godfather II reference for those who are wondering.)
The only difference is Frankie Five Angels got along with his G-Men and Joe doesn’t.
Maybe she was a secret smoker. The dog picked up on it via superior sense of smell.
