I’m trying to imbed as much of His Word (scripture) in my mind and heart in case my Bible is lost or taken away. I’m trying to learn to live in total trust and faith that If and when things get hard, He WILL provide.

There are some psalms that are fairly easy to memorize, which you can meditate on while doing laundry or housework, or whatever.

The ones I have found the easiest are generally shorter, except for a couple.

They are Psalm 1, 8, 19, 20, 23 (of course), 46, 63,91,103, and 139.

1n Corinthians 13 is also fairly easy.

We should all invest in Coconuts if we want long-lasting ‘seeds.’ ;)

“[Jesus] paid the price once and for all for my sins, assuring me of an eternity in Heaven, my life belongs to Him, and what ever time I have left on this Earth is His to direct.”

Well said! I wish He would’ve taken the wheel when I’ve made bad decision along the way, though! ;)

As a woman, Proverbs 31:10-31 keeps me on track, motivated and humble.

And if you’re not blessed with a family right now, do these things for yourself and hone your skills for the future family you will have Younger Sisters!

The Wife of Noble Character

10
A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13
She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
14
She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15
She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
16
She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17
She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18
She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19
In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20
She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21
When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22
She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23
Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24
She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29
“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Don't we all?

Problem is, He doesn't always override our will. I suppose unless we ask Him to.

I think a good idea is to pray ahead of time, that if we are on the brink of making a bad or stupid decision, that He would prevent us from doing that.

That way, He has not only our permission, but our request to intervene to stop us. Then He isn't violating our will because we already asked Him. He would be acting according to our will.

A coconut tree probably wouldn’t like east Tennessee winters.

I wish I could grow lemon trees too.

My favorite - and guiding principle - lines of scripture are found in 2nd Peter, chapter 1, verses 5-12. I try to live them each day, and find comfort in them even in trying times.

Thanks for the ping!

I had a discussion recently with my daughter about Proverbs 31. She pointed out to me that it could mean that women are not only supposed to care for their families, but they are also expected to bring in a portion of the family income. I had never considered that before. Any thoughts?

I’ve always wanted my own Avocado tree. I’ve stopped buying them due to the drug cartels strong-arming and taking over avocado farms. :(

“Any thoughts?” (Females producing income for the home.)

I think we should use any and all talents that God has given us to support ourselves and/or our families. :)

The world would be a better place if everyone did that.

OT:

I’m not sure who first said this, but in hindsight, this quote makes perfect sense:

‘God removes people from your life because He’s heard conversations that you haven’t.’

Thinking back to the decades I was a ‘Proverbs 31 Woman’ to my husband while he was a ‘#1 Jerk Husband,’ LOL!

The part about her planting a vineyard with her own earnings probably could be interpreted that way. In the old days women would sell extra eggs or butter. That would be a way to earn some money without leaving the children alone or even the house. If a woman worked, she wouldn’t be able to do the laundry by hand or bake the daily bread, the things we have so easy today.

Thanks for the input.

The reason I am so interested is that my daughter, who is married to a farmer, is a stay-at-home mom. The kids (ages 14,12,9) have been home-schooled for a few years, and just entered school this month (a small Christian school).

She is busy with the farm, grows a large garden, cooks and bakes everything from scratch, landscapes a large property, etc. She feels like she should be doing something to bring in extra money. Her husband farmer wants her to enjoy what she’s doing, and let him take care of the family income. He loves that she’s home (if that’s what she wants) and enjoys the good care the family gets....including the gourmet food lol.

I have always told her that the roles are perfect - he’s doing what he loves, as is she. For some reason, she feels like she should be helping with the income (they’re doing ok financially), but she always gets very stressed when she does. She opened a summer market and grew a massive amount of veggies, flowers, etc. She did very well at it and had many customers, but she was always anxious and it ruined it for her.

So if she’s quite happy supporting the family in her role, and he’s quite happy with her doing that, I wondered if there was a necessity to bring in extra income.

Sorry for rambling....just wanted to explain my interest.

I like the quote about the unheard conversations. Excellent.

I hadn’t heard that, why are they taking over the farms?

We had an avocado tree in California as well. Having always lived in the desert I didn’t realize I would miss the trees and plants that wouldn’t survive with the cold here. Still, leaving California was a good choice! They’ve been going more nuts since we left. (Sacramento, that is)

I was thinking much the same thing, CB.

Back in times gone by, women had different talents. Some would sew, grow things, bake, etc. A little extra money could be made by selling what you could comfortably produce at home, to someone who could not. Even piano lessons seem to fall into this category of extra income.

This makes sense to me - if you sell what you can comfortably produce, with no pressure to produce large quantities, and deadlines that have to be met, it would bring in a little extra money without the pressure and stress of having to pack up the kids and head out to the office. No time for good meals, everything done in a hurry, lots of take-out or convenience foods....just not good.

I’ll have to set her straight....maybe lol.
