“Let us pray for both sides. It’s the way of Jesus.”
Agreed. I have explained before that I do.
I share much compassion for both the Ukrainian & Russian people. I have family & friends in both countries... that ironically take a stand against Putin.
At least that money was lost on domestic scammers here.
I don't want my tax dollars funding this stupid war.
I can't believe there are people cheering for this, like families lining up and picnicking at the First Battle of Bull Run.

Article appears as an analogous comparison of Ghengis Khan to Putin?
Excerpt:
One of the worst cases of people getting on the wrong side of Genghis Khan involved the western-most of the Chinese dynasties and empires of the early 1200s AD, i.e. the Shi-Shia, or Tangut. This was an empire and not a small or mid-size country and it turned out to be Genghis Khan’s final war. He had fallen off a horse in a hunting acciudent and been badly injured and this was at around 67 years of age.
The Tangut had reneged on a treaty obligation to provide soldiers for the Mongol invasion of Khwarism and insulted Genghis Khan, saying that if the guy really was the emperor of the entire universe, he should not require help from them.”
Genghis Khan, before he died, instructed his officers to totally obliterate Tangut and leave no trace of its existence on the planet.”
Definition for your BUN comment: the affected or disabled by damage or injury. True, Ukraine has certainly been “affected or disabled by damage or injured” from this invasion by Putin.

The most promising news today comes from the eastern front line. Developments on the southern axis have a big share in this promising news. We have been witnessing for a long time that the Ukrainian armed forces are making their biggest breakthroughs on the southern front lines.
While Ukrainian forces are breaking through the Russian defense lines in the south, they are not stopping their fighting on the eastern axis. This is because Ukrainian forces need to consolidate their gains in the south with gains in the east.
The Russians are also helping Ukraine to achieve this goal.
The Russians, feeling the pressure of Kiev forces in the south intensely, have thrown everything they have at this front line. The Russian objective was actually simple. The Russians wanted to block the Ukrainian advance in the south by deploying more forces.
This strategy did not work out well for the Russians, but it worked in favor of the Ukrainian forces. With the Russians massing their most effective troops and equipment in the south, a major breach was opened in the eastern front line.
Here was the opportunity the Ukrainians had been looking for. Ukrainian forces took advantage of this breach and began to advance. Ukraine used the physical and psychological damage inflicted on Russian troops in the south to its advantage and made a major breakthrough in Donetsk.
In the last few weeks, around the Donetsk airport and south of Bakhmut, the Ukrainians have been making small but sharp advances with ingenious plans. Conducting multi-pronged offensive operations, the Ukrainian armed forces are sweeping away Russian troops and other military groups on the front lines.
Successful operations on the southern front and in Crimea and some border cities of Russia have broken the resistance of the Russian army and gained a big advantage in Donetsk.
Over the past day, Ukrainian forces have cleared the area around Donetsk airport, achieved successes in Optyne and moved south of Bakhmut. Ukrainian forces surrounded Russian troops in Andriivka, south of Bakhmut, and conducted a sharp operation in Klischiivka.
The other military groups here, as we all know, are Chechen and Wagner soldiers. These two groups have long played an active role in the fighting in Bakhmut. But as everything comes to an end, so did these groups. Ukraine’s fierce summer offensive has also taken its toll on Vladimir Putin’s biggest supporters. As a result of the fierce fighting, the Akhmat battalion in the region fled and Wagner was completely wiped out.
Several Chechen soldiers fighting for Moscow were killed in the HIMARS attack. In the video purportedly showing this attack, many bodies can be seen around a military vehicle. Later in the clip, the camera operator, speaking in Chechen and Russian, shows what appears to be bloodstains inside a wooden structure near the bodies. In addition, the Ukrainian Defense Forces actively destroyed Kadyrovtsy and Russian invaders from the 83rd separate air assault brigade and the 57/72 separate motorized rifle brigade.
The deplorable state of these military forces was confirmed by Russian telegram channels. Russian telegram channels broadcast videos showing the escape of the surviving Kadyrovists from the center of Klischiivka.
In addition to the videos, Russian occupiers are also sounding the alarm, announcing the advance of Ukrainian army units in the direction of Bakhmut.
Russian Z-military correspondent Alex Parker writes about this on his Telegram channel, describing the difficult situation in one of the key sectors of the front. This tells us that the advanced units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have reached the center of Klischiivka and continue to advance.
This Ukrainian advance is supported by video footage. Alex Parker published a video of Ukrainian soldiers passing by the church and reaching the center of the village. According to the Russian occupier, Kadyrov’s men abandoned their positions and fled, exposing their frontline positions.
Moreover, the detachments of the Wagner PMC, whose forces had previously captured Bakhmut and its surroundings, have now been completely defeated and destroyed. The occupier holds Putin personally responsible for the death of the most combat-ready unit of the Russian army.
In addition, Kadyrov’s statements made the day before this cleansing operation come to the fore again. Just the day before, the Chechen leader claimed that Akhmat had been redeployed in the direction of Bakhmut in the Klischiivka region. According to Kadyrov, such a rotation showed the confidence of the General Staff and the high combat effectiveness of the unit.
Vladimir Putin hasn't invaded anybody. He is conducting a rescue operation.
What Unconditional Surrender looks like...
That is an idea that ukies ned to get used to.....
Wait a minute, you are saying “Russia” didn’t change its stripes significantly during that roughly 1991-97 time frame, and then again thereafter?
Great, you’ve you’ve just made the point the more virulently anti-Russian posters do...
LOL!! As Rush used to say: "Symbolism over substance." Pathetic use of an old song from the broadway musical "Man of La Mancha." One has to wonder if he/she wears a cheerleader outfit, and waves around pom poms too, while cheering on Ukraine, and the destruction of our country's economy at the same time.
I prefer our National Anthem, "The Star Spangled-Banner," which represents our unending fight for freedom, and our God-given rights, that sadly, have been under constant attack in recent years. Too many people are more concerned about what is going on overseas, when they should be on hyper-alert as to what is going on right around them. Useful idiots.
No, I’m saying in the 90s we agreed not to expand NATO. That isn’t a ‘myth’. The neocons pushed for NATO expansion and Clinton hopped onboard the concept to get to the right of Bob Dole in international affairs. In the end expanding NATO into the old Soviet Union was destabilizing, as many predicted it would be.
This thread seems as good a place as any to ask a question of various posters (does not include hateful posters on either side, because I already know what they would say.)
Would you object to the USA providing directly to Ukraine from here on out only physical (not money) humanitarian aid and older weapons we would otherwise scrap or replace in coming(5?) years? None to be provided that would be particularly needed in event of a war with China (given that said war would likely be an air / sea affair.) If needing refurbishment or upgrades, other parties will be responsible at their cost, but can purchase services and/or parts from the US. 200 mile maximum range for missiles. Ukraine must agree to no strikes more than 70 miles inside Russia’s 2013 borders, and they must be on military or relevant logistics targets.
In addition, excess newer production / weapons and excess weapons in general may be purchased by NATO allies as usual at present*, and may be transferred to Ukraine at said allies’ discretion.* Again, 200 mile maximum range for missiles if transferred to Ukraine. Ukraine must agree to no strikes more than 70 miles inside Russia’s 2013 borders, and they must be on military or relevant logistics targets.
The idea here would be to save the sometimes considerable scrapping costs of the 1st category. Money from weapons sales (yes, I realize $$ from sales of new production go mostly to the manufacturers) and taxes on those could help fund the adoption and stocking of newer, better weapons. There should also be savings through scale of production of the second category. Some of the money taken in could help fund the humanitarian aid. These sales would also benefit our trade balance and economy in general.
*All normal cautions & restrictions stay in place, such as the reasons (mostly technologies’ protection) we did not sell F-35’s to Turkey. The latest and greatest would be limited to only replace older systems our allies have, not be sent to Ukraine.
I realize that in practice our NATO allies would not be happy, but, A) The Euros have recently committed a large block of funds to aiding Ukraine in coming years, so monies from those funds should be available, and, B) We could offer easy financing to stable NATO allies. C) Europe bears considerable responsibility for not listening to Trump years ago!
One will note here that I am quite bullish on the power of potential profits to entice our MIC to produce sufficient weapons quantities, and I am quite bullish on the depth of US older weapons stockpiles in most categories and types. (I researched.) And finally, the forecasts of other allied countries weapons makers, even if whittled back for being too optimistic, indicate rapid production capacities increases (a double edge sword for sure.) So, this is not likely a program needed for an extended time unless Russia is stupid enough to significantly attack a NATO country and then THAT drags out, a possibility I regard as unlikely, but, yes, possible.
The above surely needs fine tuning, but that’s the gist of it.
I don’t think our gov’t is smart enough to do this, at least not until 2025, but that’s a different matter. The idea is to reduce costs to the US taxpayer during this war, without showing yet another instance of weakness our enemies (not just Russia!!!) are sure to exploit in the future.
“Useful idiots”
As Rush said, you don’t have to be. You can change!
I'm glad to see you've realized that about yourself.
