Count Vlad does a new interpretation of Hendrix's “If 6 Was 9.” This puts Jimi into a modern setting, floating around in a world of street rappers and musicians. If you like the music please subscribe.
As if my life weren’t trying enough
I have to live on a street named Gough (guff)
I really wouldn’t mind it though,
Why not simply pronounce it Gough (go)
If slough is slew, to rhyme with through,
Couldn’t you pronounce it Gough (gew)?
You can lead a horse to the watering trough, but you cannot make him drink,
And I won’t say Gough (goff).
Very lame.
Turned it off after about 30 sec.
Bastardizes Jimi’s masterpiece.
Here’s an idea – Hendrix is in a new situation and that requires updating our expectations. Here Hendrix floats and is not nailed down by the hard guitar sound. There is nothing hard and heavy in the bass/drum region. Hendrix floats up to the sun because his mountain crumbled to the sea a long time ago. He is inaudible at times, whispering to us. We can’t understand and focus on the visuals, on the rappers. But he is still there...
My problem w/ this FRiend, that he was rooted in the blues (as am I).
I have done a deep dive into Jimi, including into bootlegs, etc.
I think I understand him, at least at a guitarist level, but nothing is guaranteed.
Cheers, ‘Pod.
