They feel the need to be as “1984” as possible. They don’t have the time and manpower necessary to rewrite all books prior to 2008. Instead, they purge them entirely.

At least in “1984”, Orwell had INGSOC giving the illusion that history was a thing.

I like the 1984 reference. The book itself has probably been pulled from the library. But pretty much everything is available on the internet these days anyway.
