Didn't realize he had passed, should have as his latest books were not up to par. If you're ex-military and haven't read any of his books do yourself a favor and try one. The Brotherhood of War (Army) and The Corps (sorry not in coloring books for Leathernecks :).

“. . . .his latest books were not up to par.”
Most of his latest books were written by his son. The Brotherhood of War was outstanding and his best series. The Corps was also extremely good.

I read the Brotherhood of War series probably 25 years ago. Good stuff. Never served, but was an Army brat, and the series seemed to me very well informed.

The early Charlie Castillo books were excellent. The later ones, not so much.

As a San Antonio boy, bilingual, with a background in Latin America and semi-spooky stuff, I could relate to the Castillo character.

I read the Brotherhood of war when I was in the military in the 80’s. Great series.

Met him back in the ‘60s when he chartered a plane to take him down to a private club on Key Largo where he was staying while writing a book. I was dating the pilot who took me along to have dinner at the club.

Yea, surprised I didn’t see it posted on FR. And based on postings here, several others didn’t know he passed.
To: Soul of the South
I read every book of his I could find. Sad to hear of his passing.
