I understand that crz dislikes Churchill. It seems that it was a bad thing to imprison nazis. Maybe you can work it out with him.

Churchill is a good analogue for Zelensky. At the decision point of the crisis, they kept it together. Britain came within an inch of making a deal. If Halifax had been called on to lead the coalition instead, he may have done it.

As for Ukraine, consider Poland in 1939. Also a nation that Germany (and Russia) had been “beefing with” for centuries.

“…I do not think a government should imprison its opponents, under normal circumstances. In very rare cases you can make a case for that (rebellion, say)…”

Such as January 6th protestors, Neocon?

Chile
South Korea
Greece
El Salvador
India
Pakistan
etc.

The range of circumstances is extensive. Think about it.
And all cases are grey, not black&white.

For what its worth, Jan 6 was no revolt, it was a protest, and the measures taken, and ongoing, on that are a horrible injustice.

If that mob were armed and had a plan to actually overthrow the government it would be another matter.

Yes, but the American government/judicial overlords declared it an insurrection. Our current corrupt American government, just like the current Ukrainian corrupt government, can, AND DO, go after anyone they deem an ENEMY OF THE STATE.

“Our current corrupt American government”

That is correct. It is also unjust and tyrannical. It has no legitimate excuse for this behavior.

” like the current Ukrainian corrupt government”

That government is at war. All governments at war are dictatorial and totalitarian, out of necessity. That’s the nature of war, and so it has always been. The US government has done the same in wartime.
