Is Scotch Ham the same as Canadian Bacon. When I was a little girl, I would walk to the market in the village and buy Scotch Ham for my Father’s Birthday dinner. His Mother came from England, so I grew up on English food: sausage and mashed potatoes, Shepherd’s pie, bubble and squeak, (sliced potatoes, onions, and cabbage), fish and chips, steak and mushroom pies, and sausage rolls. Desserts for Christmas use to be mince pies and fruit cake soaked in bourbon.

I like to bash English food but some of it is OK. The fish and chips as mentioned are good from the right place, steak & ale pie is good as is Yorkshire Pudding. None of it is remotely healthy (the Brits are almost as fat as us). There are a lot of very good Indian restaurants in England thanks to their large Indian population. They have a functioning health department in England also so you’re not likely to get the “Delhi Belly” like eating it in India itself.

A friend who was living in Cambridge after marrying a Brit girl put it this way. He said “There’s plenty of great food in England, it’s just that none of it is English”.
