I may be dense, but I’m not dense enough to not understand how expecting cops to be 24/7 angels turns once good cities into hellholes. Detroit, Chicago, New York are 100% the fault of those who expect cops to be as you expect them to be while working, with no break to be themselves.
I’m personally happy if cops are professional when dealing with the public, but telling bad jokes to keep them sane in the car. I have no problem with them, in a taxpayer paid car, telling bad jokes because they just dealt with the worst of humanity.
