Ammo slide....
Wow - 1900 fps on a 357 mag is really moving. Typical loads are, what, maybe 1400 with a 125 gr bullet, and maybe 1250 or so with 158 gr? Still packs a wallop compared to the 38 spl
.
I consider the 10mm kind of equal to the .357, or .41 mag, depending on load. The ammo available varies a LOT from something equivalent to the 40 cal (424 ft/lb muzzle energy) to some crazy Buffalo Bore brand at nearly 800 ft/lb muzzle energy. My Colt seemed to do very well with ammo up to around 600 ft/lb which would propel a 180 gr projectile at around 1200 fps.
Some of the 10 mm purists note that there’s a small unsupported part of the chamber in many 1911 designs that really make it less worthy of the extreme ammo out there so I stick with stuff in the mid 500 ft/lb range. It’s stout, but easily managed by the gun.
Or was back before that tipsy canoe episode. Glad I was wearing my floatation device. :)
