I went to see her at a Star Trek convention in San Jose before “Generations” came out.
“They give the Enterprise to a Android...no problem, they give it to a blind guy...no problem, they give it to me...I crash it”

Very funny lady!

**Star Trek: The Last Voyage - SNL**

The only realistic episode.

When the tv series started, I was 12, it was fall 66, and harvest was underway. Come home from school, have a snack, do livestock chores, then go run farm equipment. So, it was winter before I saw the show my classmates were talking about. That they kept finding planets with gravity and air quality similar to Earth’s was mocked by one of my more intelligent classmates.

The ‘transporter’ was ridiculous to even this 12 year old, but I was noticing the young women were all beautiful. And none were skinny or fat. So I admit that was probably why, IF I saw the show at all, I was watching with a muscle car magazine to read if the show wasn’t interesting at times.

My mom said the boots and mini dresses were absurd for women crew of a spaceship, and she was right as usual, lol.

Chief Medical Officer: Leonard H. “Bones” McCoy (DeForest Kelly)

Bones, because old time ship's surgeons were referred to as "Sawbones".

Yes, she had a certain allure. But I had to move her down a couple of notches because the actress who played her was stupid enough to quit the series.

So was Seven of Nine's skintight outfit on Voyager, but I'll bet it increased teen and adult male viewership.

To me it was more than just a space western. I like Star Trek's futuristic takes on real navy historical events.

Like dealing with an enemy who can cloak and the Enterprise crew saying it's unfair...always made me think about the Allies fighting the German U-boats in WW1. Or when some of them are captured and send a message encoded in some way that only the Starfleet folks can know it's there -- reminds me of the real life Captain Bainbridge of the USS Philadelphia in the early 19th century. The times they have to chose to destroy a federation ship to keep it from being used by the enemy reminds me of Stephen Decatur's crew from a real ship named Enterprise having to burn the Philadelphia. And in one of the Next Generation episodes (I think the one where Picard becomes a Borg) the Enterprise shows up for a battle too late and the crew spends a minute staring in awe of the death and destruction. That scene always makes me wonder what it was like for the real crew on the WW2 Enterprise to arrive at Pearl Harbor too late. (A scene I'm glad they put in the new Midway movie.)
