I wonder whether the looters will have any problems with this system.
I imagine the rampant theft in retail will pretty much necessitate the installation of such systems. Nearly everywhere.
Then, every customer that enters the store, or at least by party, will have a debit / credit card (some by phone app) tied to their purchases.
Look at the cart scanning in Cerritos, California. (in the group of lots of pictures - woman pushing a cart)
There was a bicycle store, YEARS AGO, that caught a shoplifter. He tried to get out the door and it scanned the item - THEN he saw his bill as he was about to use his thumbprint to authorize payment. He went back in and dumped the extra item in a dressing room.
They found the item and the rejected transaction. Knew who he was by the payment method.
