Thank you for your service whether or not you won your war. I didn’t win mine.

Veteran status is a plus, it’s not a must. But, knocking people because they’re veterans is bad. Knocking people because they’re veterans may reveal a personality disorder. They’re not sure of their manhood.

I can’t say knocking veterans is a disqualifier, because ours is a two-party system. Often, you’re voting against the other party, not for your party.

But, sometimes your parties candidate is so obnoxious that you actually vote for the other party’s candidate, or for a third party, or abstain. Didn’t you think a little less of Ted Cruz for supporting Donald Trump in 2016 after Trump called his wife ugly, and after a Trump supporter accused Cruz’ father of assassinating Jack Kennedy? I did. Still, I supported and voted for Trump or maybe I should say against Hillary Clinton.

Well, in 2020, Donald Trump didn’t do as well as Republican candidates for Congress. The shortfall cost Trump the crucial states of AZ, GA and WI. It can be argued that the people Trump turned into Never Trumpers cost him re-election (and condemned the country to four years of Biden).

Let’s take a look at U.S. Presidents since WWII:

Truman - WWI
Ike, JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Ford - WWII
Carter (Cold War) - Naval Academy, active duty, reserves
RR, GWHB - WWII
Clinton (Viet Nam era) - student deferments, draft dodger
GWB (Viet Nam era) - Air National Guard
Obama - no
Trump (Viet Nam era) - 4F
Biden (Viet Nam era) - student deferments

Since WWII, almost all U.S. Presidents have served. Initially, because of that war. No real man of that generation wanted to say to their grandson, quoting General Patton, ‘Well, your granddaddy shoveled shit in Louisiana.’

After WWII came the Cold War, which turned hot every now and then. As you can see on the list, we’ve had some shit-shovelers recently, and, no, I don’t think they have been as good as those who served.
