Ukraine War After the start of the Ukrainian offensive, which broke through the first line of Russian defense in the south, the Russians are experiencing great difficulties, especially in the direction of Velyka Novosilka in Zaporizhia and mainly in Orikhiv. Russian military officials received one shocking news after another from this region today. A large group of Russian infantry was ambushed en masse. Then came the news of a very critical surrender from the southern front.
Let’s take a closer look at these events and the latest situation in the southern offensive The settlements of Robotyne and Verbove south of Orikhiv are among the most active fronts in recent days. After the last Russian defense lines were broken in this area, Ukrainian troops began to destroy Russian forces in the trenches of Zaporizhia. The Russian soldiers, who have suffered a morale-motivational collapse, have lost faith in winning this war after their defense lines were broken. The Ukrainians are taking advantage of this situation and are picking off the Russian military units in Zaporizhia one by one, which is significantly changing the fate of the war.
Most recently, as part of Kiev’s plans for a southern offensive, Russian infantry was ambushed in a mind-boggling ambush by Ukrainian special forces of the 8th Special Purpose Regiment in the Zaporizhzhia Region. The Ukrainian special forces opened heavy fire on the Russian troops in this area. Unable to withstand much pressure, the Russian infantry units were completely destroyed by Ukrainian artillery and missile fire. We are talking about a group of nearly 200 Russian troops. Although the casualty figures have not been confirmed by Moscow, it is estimated that this Russian military group destroyed by the Ukrainians in Zaporizhia was large.
After this critical offensive, Ukraine’s repressive operations on the Zaporizhia front lines continued in full swing. The Ukrainians have seriously stepped up the tempo these days to take advantage of the Russian dramatic situation.
During the offensive of the 47th Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine on the Novoprokopivka-Verbove axis in the Zaporizhzhia Region, a PLATOON of Russian soldiers surrendered, laying down their weapons.
THIS SURRENDER, one of the most shocking news items on today’s agenda, was one of the CLEAREST EXAMPLES of RUSSIA’S DESPERATION IN ZAPORIZHIA.
So how will these critical offensive operations by the Ukrainians and the withdrawal of Russian troops and their surrender to Kiev affect the situation on the fronts? Will Russia give up completely and give up all of southern Ukraine, including Zaporizhia? Or will the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with their own efforts and Western military support, sweep the Russians off the southern fronts?
Critical assessments came from Ukrainian officials on this issue. Ukrainian military officials have been particularly blunt about the possibility of a new Ukrainian offensive in the western part of the Zaporizhzhia region, noting that there may be a number of Russian defensive positions prepared just ahead and south of the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ advance. For example, Oleksandr Tarnavsky, commander of the Tavria operational-strategic grouping of troops, spoke about the Ukrainian counterattack.
Tarnavsky noted that Ukrainian fighters decisively broke through the Russian invaders first. Tarnavsky expects faster successes as Ukrainian forces will crush the Russians’ weaker second line of defense. In fact, just as Tarnavsky reported, in recent days Ukrainian defense forces have advanced towards another set of Russian defense positions prepared in certain areas near Robotyne in the Western Zaporizhia region.
However, many Russian sources claim that these positions are the first, rather than the second, layer of defense in the Russian Army’s multi-echelon defense of the south. We know that Ukrainian officials and Russian war correspondents use different terminology to describe the same positions. In this regard, Tarnavsky noted that Russian troops spent 60 percent of their time and resources on building a series of defensive positions that Ukrainian forces overran, and only 20 percent on each of the next two layers of defense further south.
ISW notes that this broken series of Russian defensive positions is an interlocking system of invader trenches and bunkers protected by anti-tank ditches and dense minefields. And Tarnavsky’s report confirms analysts’ earlier observation that Russian forces may not have made similar complex preparations throughout the war.
