My memory of President Nixon resigning is quiet a bid different than the writer’s.
Nixon like President Trump was the victim of a coup. A coup by the same cast of characters as we have been seeing for 2016 until today. From mad dog partisan Democrats to sanctimonious Republicans to a partisan press to the same initialed investigation agencies. From trumped up charges to congress critters lying like rugs to the daily drip drip drip of charges and innuendo in the media.
The only difference was Nixon did not have the stomach for the fight as does President Trump.

Nixon was smart to get out while he still had a sound mind and some financial backup for himself and family to live on. The rigged court process would have drained his health and livelihood till he was in his grave. I appreciate what Richard Nixon did for his country and am so ashamed of what the communists have been allowed to get by with since his leaving office. This Republic is in dire straits and only Donald Trump has the mental and physical health and the financial resources to stay afloat while he turns this country back to the land of the free and home of the brave.

I agree with your points but I believe it was the GOP that did not have the stomach to fight. Nixon’s side fled the battlefield leaving him few options.

50 years later and the GOP still specializes in the feckless, flaccid, self-destructuve sanctimony you pointed out.

I’m quite certain that Trump remembers the fake news lynching of Nixon and learned the lesson of fighting crybullies. Never apologize.
