Students at a high school football game watched on in amazement as a recently sacked teacher ran onto the track and outsprinted pursuers before being pinned to the ground by police.
Carlos Hurtado, 27, was banned from the campus after he was sacked last week by Heritage High School in Brentwood, California, reportedly for poor attendance.
The history teacher from Oakley appeared to take it badly posting a message to his Facebook page saying he was ‘in desperate need’ of his followers’ support and directing them to a petition calling for his reinstatement.
But no-one was expecting to see the ex-teacher upstage the football as his former school took on local rivals Granada in front of an excited crowd.
‘Shout out to the coach who knocked him down,’ said one observer, ‘I feel safer knowing there are adults like him who take safety first with our kids.’
Video posted to YouTube catches the moment Hurtado, wearing a suit and a buttoned jacket jogs onto the running track and leaves a chasing police officer in his wake.
He ran through the stands, hurdled a fence but was finally taken out and knocked to the floor after trying to double back in front of the home bench.
Handcuffed and shoved in a police car he was arrested on suspicion of disrupting a school activity, trespassing, and obstruction, and taken to Martinez Detention Facility where he is being held on $3,000 bail.
Just days earlier he had spoken calmly at a meeting of the school board where he politely suggested teachers deserved a pay increase.
The popular amateur soccer referee who described himself online as a ‘huge role model in my community’ was due to spend the Labor Day weekend in Hawaii after donating $1,000 to Maui Relief Fund.

Sometimes the thing isn’t the thing…
They aren’t giving us all the facts of the stories. You don’t get parents and kids supporting his expulsion from campus unless he’s really done something.
If he wanted his job back, then he’s doing it wrong.
Once a school fires you, they do not want to see you on their property, like at all, for a very long time.
You certainly don’t go back on campus anyway and create some kind of dramatic scene, like some rebellious teenager.
Now, he has made it even easier for the school to shut him out. These positions are not subject to made up popularity polls. He looks desperate and disorganized. Say ‘Goodbye’ to your friends, Pal.
This is now a part of your past.
He described himself as a huge role model for the community? Who does that...lol
I domt believe this. It takes years to get rid of crappy teachers, unless they are Christian or are caught on film screwing minor kids.
I agree…
Actual quote from an able-bodied male on welfare.
No need to guess.
Oy, sounds like a kind of a big problem.
>> Who does that...lol
Definitively, the role model… lol
Should be the school’s new mascot — a guy in a business suit
from the video...
In Texas High School Football, we call that “de-cleated”
