She has been a dentist in the Bay Area for more than three years. "I owe somewhere around $470-480,000," said Eriksen. "I think it's an obscene amount." Eriksen says it's impossible to live in San Francisco, pay rent and pay back her loans.

I'm sure there are plenty of distressed areas that can use a dentist.

Yes, people make choices in life.

She has chosen to live and work in one of the most expensive cities in America.

If that works for her, fine. We are all about people having free choices about how to live their lives.

But if it doesn’t work for her, then as a mature adult, making responsible decisions about her life, she should do something about it.

At the very least, she needs a personal household budget. But also, needs to see where her money is going, and can she cut expenses. All of us do this in one way or another.

Does she live in that expensive neighborhood she works in? While the Bay Area is expensive, there are cheaper neighborhoods within the area, as is true in all of our hometowns.

Does she have, or willing to have, a roommate to share expenses?

Does she go to places like Starbucks a lot?

Does she love the Bay Area so much, that she is willing to make the financial sacrifices to live there, instead of somewhere with a lower cost of living?

A mature responsible adult will consider these sorts of things, and others, as she plans her professional and personal life.
