Cholera will not start until the porta potties are full and people then use the outdoors instead. You will know if it cholera if many have an outbreak of copious diarrhea and GI pain, nausea and cramps and thirst. You will get dehydrated and exhibit great thirst as you are losing much body fluids due to the diarrhea. You electrolyte balance also goes into the crapper along with those fluids. You will need fluids and electrolytes, drink a lot of gator aid. In severe cases it will require hospitalization and IV hydration and antibiotics. Particular susceptible are babies. It can kill them quick. Most adults, it rarely kills if they are healthy.
