Nothing like slamming the receiver down after a bad call. Wouldn’t do that today with your stupid phone...and I call them stupid because that’s what they’re making us.
Rotary desk phones could also be used as bludgeons, as they were heavy and stout. The steel plate on the bottom was probably 1/8” thick.
You would see this on TV occasionally.
The phone my parents had installed in our new house in 1968 was just like that except it hung on the wall, there was only one in the house, and it was slap dab in the middle of everything between the kitchen and dining area(no private conversations).
Somebody watched “Mad Men” closely enough to notice that the phones should have had black dials like that in the early seasons, rather than clear ones.
