Some elementary school kids don’t even know what a landline is. Take a trip down memory lane and remember the type of phone you used to use.

Back in the nineties, when I still had a landlines, I bought a beautiful new rotary phone that worked. That was a novelty, especially for my kid’s friends.

Imagine the rotary phone being used by General Buck Turgidson in this scene from Dr. Stangelove

I don't see a phone.

The phone my parents had installed in our new house in 1968 was just like that except it hung on the wall, there was only one in the house, and it was slap dab in the middle of everything between the kitchen and dining area(no private conversations).

Back in the day, we would be back from school, and make prank phone calls, well one day we called, we looked in the phone book(what's that now?) the number of the "Old Maid" on the street, and did the usual running gag of "Is your refridgerator running" and she said, "yes it is and I will find you little f#ckers"

Hung up and never did it again

Around 2000, when Hubby was contracting for government sometimes he’d have to do remote work.

It was only dial-up to connect with our EarthLink provider using an 800 number. It was fine when we were home in CA.

He tried it once from Mom’s very remote family farm in Western NY. Direct dial hasn’t totally caught on there yet. Oh you could dial the 800 number ... no problem. But before it connected, an operator came on and asked, “What number are you calling from?” It broke the connection every time.

He had to go to my cousin’s office in town to be able to work.

We need to go back to them. Get rid of these damn “smartphones for dumbass” and there would be a hell of a lot less crime, violence, evil, murder, fraud, theft and political shenanigans in the country. The world would be a hell of a lot better place WITHOUT CELLPHONES.

I remember when a wall phone was a new idea, ours was just on a table in the hall next to the egg timer for long distance calls.

We did that too. We'd call people who's last name was "Stone". If an adult answered, preferably a woman, we'd ask "how are all the little pebbles?"
Get it? ;O)

"Is your refridgerator running" and she said, "yes it is and I will find you little f#ckers"

LOL we never had that happen.

“it was always Klondike-5555”

Klondike 5-5555. The exchange needs 3 numbers.

Isn’t the human memory odd? I too can remember my childhood address and phone number, no problem, but I have to stop and think about my current number.

I don't see a phone.

It's on the counter, a bit to the left. About midway between...well, it's there. ;O)

Well, I was lucky. My dad was a doctor so us kids had to have our own phone which turned out to be a “party line” which was kind of goofy. Somebody else could pick up and listen in on our conversations and visa versa. Those were the days.

“I remember when a wall phone was a new idea”

Wall phones were very common over a hundred years ago! How old are you?
