Don McLean had other wonderful songs. He was one of the first to retain the rights to his songs.. AMERICAN PIE made him a rich man for the rest of his life. I saw him in concert about 18 years ago. He was amazing.

Other than American Pie and Vincent (and By the Waters of Babylon which wasn’t a hit, I just like it), I couldn’t remember his other big songs, so I looked him up and was quite surprised at the ones other people sang (even Fred Astaire!)

He apparently loved Israel which may be why he put Psalm 137 to music.

Last year, on the 50th anniversary "American Pie" release Don McLean reissued the song. He requested the a capella group 'Home Free' to accompany him.
