Never opened his cakehole politically when playing the Gulf Coast.

Knew where his bread was buttered, I guess.

He’s a local boy from Pascagoula. Used to do his beach troubadour thing from Gulfport to Panama City in his early career.

After the BP spill he just showed up unannounced at his sisters place, Lulus in Gulf Shores Alabama (Roll Tide).

Facebook spread his visit like wildfire and within 30 minutes, the place was packed.

Saw him at the Wharf in Orange Beach several times.

He was one of a kind.

The last drunk soul in Margaritaville has left the establishment.

Fins, Jimmy.

Grew up in Gulf Shores back in the day. In one of his books he talked about how he and some friends would come over from Mobile and surf at Alabama Point (great waves from the crosscurrents) and he mentioned that there would always be local kids there too.

Pretty sure I was one of those 'local' kids he was talking about since when we were down there (Surf's Up) there would often be some guys from Mobile there too.

My wife and I still eat at LuLu's whenever we're in the area. Well, as well as Throw'd Rolls and DeSoto's too.

I remember several unannounced concerts in New Orleans, where Jimmy and the Coral Reefers would appear under the name "Freddy and the Fishsticks". Got into Tipitina's once for a "Freddy" show; it was always a small venue for those appearances. Even pre-internet, those scaled-down concerts would sell out fast, based on word spreading as quickly as people could call their friends.
