I worked for company for 5 years that has a national presence. Senior management of this entity was vastly over-represented by gay men and women.

The nature of the work at the line level really favored younger people or people without family attachments — there was significant travel involved with the job for potentially weeks and months at a time. Many of us spoke (quietly) in 2007 about the Gay Mafia at this place.

Once an extremely hard working and always available for extra stuff person got promoted, they would make certain that their buddies would be first on the list to fill in where they were getting promoted out of. Saw that happen OFTEN. Most of us chose families and a life instead of work and bath house touch ups.

I, too, worked at a company where the owners’ son was a little “light in the loafers,” and later came full out. It was strange that we were in Texas, but the son arranged company “team building” retreats in New York City and Chicago, interestingly during the “gay games” when we happened to be there.

He arranged for us to see theater musicals in Chicago and the big toy store in NYC. Childish stuff. He once planned a company retreat to a spa resort in the Austin area of Texas. It was infested with lesbian couples.

The family was an emotional mess, so I’m not surprised that the son became screwed up.
