Schumer moves to split House and Senate Republicans ahead of potential shutdown

In a “Dear Colleague” letter sent Friday morning, Schumer sought to drive a wedge between House and Senate Republicans — offering praise for both Senate Appropriations Chair Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and ranking Republican Susan Collins (R-Maine), a lawmaker with whom Schumer is often at loggerheads.

“We cannot afford the brinkmanship or hostage-taking we saw from House Republicans earlier this year when they pushed our country to the brink of default to appease the most extreme members of their party,” Schumer wrote.

The chamber passed all 12 appropriations bills out of committee on a bipartisan basis, he boasts. That drew an implicit contrast to the House, where Speaker Kevin McCarthy has broken faith on his spending caps deal with President Joe Biden, and is instead pushing partisan proposals that don’t have a prayer of becoming law.

“The only way to avoid a shutdown is through bipartisanship, so I have urged House Republican leadership to follow the Senate’s lead and pass bipartisan appropriations bills,” the majority leader continued.

The senators would spend you into oblivion if they could.

Some would say they have ...

House conservatives must hold the line on sensible cuts!

Yup. It doesn’t matter what the Senate does first. Per the Constitution, ALL spending bills MUST originate in the House. House conservatives must refuse to rebrand a Senate overspending bill as a House-originated spending bill.

No brainer, given the agency abuse going on by the Democrats. We need to fight fire with fire, they use a blowtorch and we use a wet matchstick.

When has a spending bill NOT required the support of the extreme sides of either party? No one has had that kind of majority for a long, long time.

A little knowledge of history will really sink Schumer’s hyperbolic rhetoric.

I wonder if McCarthy realizes that History will remember him as the one man that could have saved the Republic but took the bribe money instead and ushered in it’s downfall?

What's the worry, McCarthy will cave , AGAIN.

There's no point to his strategy.

Dumbass Chucky doesn’t have to do jack. There are two Republican Parties now. They’ve already split. One represents the Americans people and one, the party of Mitt and Lizzie, represents the democRATS and foreign illegal alien freeloaders.

Bipartisanship is funding a weaponized government that is out to destroy one of the two parties. Actually I think that the only party that is bi is the GOP which actually realizes that they were born in the wrong bodies and were meant by god to be democrats.

Meanwhile, it was reported yesterday that Biden gave notice to the House that he will be giving all Government workers a 5.2% raise while most everyone else suffers with bidenflation. This will also further add to our explosive deficits and feed further inflation. If we had real republicans in the House and senate, they would shut it all down to stop this outrage. However, with this batch of Rinos, don’t expect anything to be done. They’re happy to spend us into third world oblivion.

Also, this 5.2% raise for 2024 is in addition to the 4.8% raise in 2023. So, when RINO republicans allow this latest one to pass, they will have allowed government payrolls to grow by nearly 10% in less than 2 years! This is not even counting the additional costs associated with golden pensions and other benefits that will commensurately rise. Great job, GOP. Why do we need an opposition party at all when we have republicans that give the dems everything they want for their base.
