I was on a flight from CMH to DFW and we were about 50’AGL at night and suddenly it was full throttle and nose/gear up. While We were still climbing back out the Pilot comes on the PA and says “Sorry folks but there was another aircraft on our runway.” Calmly like it was the Welcome Aboard greeting.

I was in planes ever since I could remember as Dad worked for AA and that was the only real dangerous situation I remember.

There was a flight from DFW to AUS on Southwest and I was sitting by the Emergency Wing Exit and I looked out over the wing while at the gate like I usually do and everything looked normal then when we were about halfway to AUS I noticed that 3 screws had started backing out of a panel midwing so I ordered a second drink and spent the rest of the flight watching those screws slowly getting longer above the panel. But the panel wasn’t flapping around. When we were at the gate I waited for everyone else to deplane and when the Flight Attendant asked if I was OK I said “yes but you might want to tell the someone about those 3 screws that were backing out starting about halfway here.” She looked out the window and “said how long ?” I repeated “halfway here but I didn’t see any reason to have any Passengers freaking out about it because there was nothing to really do since we were at the halfway point.” She thanked Me for keeping it to myself.

Attention: SPECTRUM TV and The flamers at Disney/ESPN HAVE NOT REACHED AN AGREEMENT TO RENEW THE CONTRACT !!! SO EVERYONE MIGHT WANT TO SEE IF ESPN IS STILL WORKING ON THEIR CABLE/DISH. I am going to be screen mirroring via the ESPN APP UNLESS THE BASTARDS HAVE CUT THAT OFF BECAUSE IT USES MY SPECTRUM SUBSCRIPTION TO LOG IN TO THE APP. Going to check that out now.

I just tried to use the APP and it doesn’t work as well. I’m on hold/ignore with SPECTRUM right now. Going to ask if I will be getting a credit for not having those affected channels. I’m sure it’s futile but I’m going to ask anyway.

Okay, just got off the phone with SPECTRUM Billing and they are doing a $15.00 credit on the account because of this fiasco. The Lady said that they swamped with calls about this. So everyone with SPECTRUM TV needs to all the Billing Department at: 1 (855) 707-7328 and get the Credit on Your Service.

Now I have to figure out how to rectify this issue.

My flying experiences were in no larger than 10 seat aircraft, until at age 56 when my wife and I flew round trip from Moline IL to ATL to attend our youngest son’s graduation from OCS at Benning.

It was a 70 seat twin jet. Being used to the small, noisy, shaking and vibrating piston pounders, I remember expecting a extremely smooth and quiet trip. I found the bigger planes to do similarly to the small ones, just not as pronounced.

Two years ago, visiting family in Cal, we were in a 757 for the return. I remember thinking how the senses noticed the same things as in the little birds: clunky landing gear functions, wiggly wings, and engine noise; just not as much as the 70 seater, and certainly not as much as the piston pounders I’m used to.

Since that trip, with the airport headaches, (with the exception of visiting somewhere outside of the 48), we are driving. As an OTR trucker, I learned how to roll ‘in a zone’, alert, yet relaxed enough to resist fatigue. A 1,000 mile day by big truck? Done it many times. In 06 I did a 5,200 mile trip in 6 days and 3 hours, not counting a day in the middle of the trip to wait for the backhaul. Any stopping was for a quick trot around the rig to check tires etc, or the restroom and sleep. Nothing else. (Snack while driving. Big meals make a person sleepy). A CB is a must though. You can learn of a road blockage in time to dodge it, (or of ‘bears’, lol).

30,000 ft up is a different view, but not very scenic.

F1 – TECH UPDATES AT THE ITALIAN GRAND PRIX

At each Grand Prix, teams submit to the FIA a list of all major aerodynamic and bodywork components and assemblies that have not been run at a previous event. This car presentation provides a unique insight into the different development paths being taken over the course of the season.

Formula 1’s visit to Monza has prompted a number of teams to bring developments specifically targeted at the Temple of Speed’s low downforce needs.

McLaren lead the way by making significant changes to the rear wings of the MCL60, with new lower drag variants featuring a low drag flap assembly. There are two trim options, reducing flap loading and resultant downforce and drag of the rear wing assembly. Additionally, the wing features new endplates. The Woking squad has also adjusted the rear corner winglet arrangement in order to reduce aerodynamic load and drag at circuit’s such as Monza.

At the front of the MCL60 the team has also altered the front wing flap, aiming at reducing load to balance the low-downforce rear wing options. The team has also brought a new front brake duct scoop, which results in improved flow conditioning and subsequently an efficient increase in aerodynamic load while maintaining sufficient brake cooling.

The changes were made to overcome performance woes experienced at Spa, and in the opening practice session at Monza the team split the rear wing trim levels across its cars with McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella saying the results had been promising.

“We had no time to address that for Spa. We had some quite rapid corrective work to be able to come here to Monza and have some low drag solutions. We saw these solutions split across the cars this morning. We are happy that the data we saw were matching the expectation. So now we are left to pick the right one for the race. And we hope to do better than what we were doing in Spa in dry conditions.”

Alfa Romeo, meanwhile, have chosen Monza to unveil a revised front suspension geometry. New suspension shrouds work to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the car, working in unison with the remainder of the car. The Hinwil team has also brought a low-downforce rear wing to this race.

Elsewhere, Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari all make circuit-specific alterations to their front and rear wing assemblies, all designed to suit the drag range of Monza. Aston Martin have a circuit-specific rear wing, Williams has a Monza-spec front wing, while Alpine have made changes to the beam wing of the A523 to reduce drag and lower downforce.

Finally, over at AlphaTauri revised, Monza focussed front and rear wings are joined by two other minor updates designed for this circuit. Three turning vanes have been removed from the rear view mirrors and Compared to the baseline rear brake duct assembly, several of the upper, rear brake drum elements have been removed. Both changes have been made to meet the aero demands of Monza.
