Roughly 3% of the Colonial population fought against British rule.

My exact quote and in context of those who would actually take up arms against a tyrannical government.

No burrs... Just not letting you move the goal posts either. The comment stands and is actually pretty Universal in scope. It's never a Majority, or even a significant minority, of a population that can over turn things using martial force.

The Zeta's in Mexico aren't even a 1% of the population and they frequently out-gun the Mexican military.

With 90+ million gun owners here in the US... If even 1% of them took up arms against our own military, they'd be a significant threat to entrenched power here.

Well, if you want to play that game, you went from “fought” to just the “Continental Army.”

Those who fought the British were not just limited to those in the Continental Army. Many people “fought,” in one way or another; fighting is not just restricted to someone who was armed and served under Continental Army officers. Irregulars fight; resistance is fighting; spying is fighting; supplying with goods, food, and services is fighting; providing support; etc.

Consider the native Filipinos in WWII. Many of them supported the active resistance against the Japanese occupiers, and many were executed BY the Japanese because of that “passive” resistance. Those heroes SERVED the CAUSE of resistance to Japanese tyranny.

You restrict those who fought in the American Revolution to just those in the Continental Army: An official, government-created army.

Then, in the next breath, you mention the Zetas in Mexico. What official army, created by and funded by the government, and under government control, are the Zetas? None whatsoever.

The 90+ million gun owners in the US of whom you speak: What official army, created by and funded by a government, and under that government’s control, are those tens of millions? None whatsoever. And, even just using your 1% number; again, what official army, created by and funded by a government, and under that government’s control, are they?

Did the entirety of the 1/3 Colonial population “fight,” even under the broadest of definitions? No; but great many did under the broad definition of “fight.”

You are making much ado about nothing.
