Lahaina was the capitol of the Kingdom of Hawaii until 1959 when the United States took possession of it.

Honolulu replaced Lahaina as the capital in 1845. The US took possession of Hawaii in 1898.

yep, factual errors seep into stories in the media. Are there no fact checkers, or editors, nowadays? That was a glaring one.
