Years ago I worked for the world’s largest manufacturer of electronic connectors. The company prided itself in the fact it’s engineers were re-educated every seven years to keep pace with technology. Contrast that to the fact that k-12 teachers do not need to update their knowledge other than keeping up with a little history or some light reading in the sciences. What they are supposed to do is very simple. They are not highly knowledgeable. They are not highly skilled. And they do not need to be. Unfortunately, very few seem to recognize that k-12 teachers have so little to learn, but their education cannot manage to do even that.
Of course I can’t let an education post go by without pointing to the fact that the quality of people going into education degrees in college are substandard. They have low GPA’s in high school. They have low scores on SAT’s and ACT’s. They have low IQ’s. They are not people capable of any rigor when it comes to their own education, so why wouldn’t that be the case in their teaching?
The fact of the matter is teachers are focused on everything other than the subject they are teaching. I think it’s intentional because most teachers do not fully know the subject they teach.
Hate to say it but this is true for at least some of them. I know a teacher who voted for Biden:
-never heard of the Bill of Rights
-never heard of the First Amendment
-never heard of the Fifth Amendment
-never heard of the Russian Bear
-never heard that Russia had nuclear weapons
-never heard of the Laptop from Hell
-never heard that transition surgery on kids leads to sterilization
-never heard of negative numbers
-never knew that Israelis have computers
-never heard that government overspending leads to inflation
Do I need to go on?
