Don McLean's Vincent (Starry,Starry Night) Almost all images created by Vincent Van- Gogh.
Great piece. I once sang it in church as a special music performance.
One of his best efforts; one stanza too long but a great tune.
Wonderful baby off of “Homeless brother” is also an unappreciated classic, covered by Fred Astaire.

Wonderful baby.
It takes courage and confidence to stand up and sing in front of a live audience, who are not all family.
I haven’t done so in years.
Did you have music accompaniment or did you do it a cappella?
I would image the acoustics of the average Christian church are quite good, high ceilings and all.
Thank-you. That was awesome. True Story: I grew up in a very blue color area of the Hudson Valley in NY. In 1970 (or it could have been 1969 or 1971), a neighbor held a “welcome home” party for his son, who had been wounded (punji stick) in Viet Nam. He invited everyone in the community. And sitting on a high-top chair between the food and alcohol, there was a guy with a guitar and great voice named “Don McLean.” I was around age eleven. I would be lying if I said he played an early version of “American Pie” or “Stormy, Stormy Night,” but I later learned that this was the real Don McLean. Apparently he and my neighbor’s son crossed paths and connected, and so, Don McLean played at his Viet Nam homecoming.
Great song.
That must have been on the flip side of American pie since I know that song so well
It’s the only thing of his I owned
Long since gone on a 45
And the American Pie was the long version not the radio version and I knew the entire song lol.
The flip side (45 rpm) of American Pie was American Pie part 2.
In church I typically accompanied myself with guitar. For Vincent I used a finger roll.
What is a finger roll?
What a great story/memory.
“What is a finger roll?.”
It’s a technique in guitar playing.
the first record I ever bought. I can still taste the bitterness at the stupidity of having to flip it mid-song.
I think that might have been the first record I ever bought as well. 89 cents at Hill’s Department Store.
A finger roll typically uses thumb, index, middle, ring finger to pluck the strings in a chord, in that sequence or another. An alternative to strumming.
Beautiful song, of which Don McLean had several.
