I’m a Trump supporter but it’s really not right to make fun of a person’s appearance, their smile, or their orange hair. Many of us would like to change something about our appearance, but we cannot. I watched a movie with an older Liam Neesen. He was serious throughout the drama. With a happy ending, he smiled - big mistake.

Well, I agree with you there, as far as it goes. I certainly wouldn't want to be judged on my appearance, that's for sure.

The problem with DeSantis, however, is that he's fake. Look, if he's most comfortable maintaining a serious demeanor, and smiling doesn't come naturally, or easily, to him, then so be it. He should just go with that. But he doesn't. Rather, his political handlers are telling him that, to be successful, he needs to be doing this or that thing, and DeSantis goes along with it.

I should imagine that, at this point, people are sick to death of fake pols pretending to be something they're not. That DeSantis himself doesn't realize that says "loser" to me.

What you say about making fun of a person's appearance is true for people living private lives, but once a person enters politics, all bets are off.

Body language analysis is a booming field and each of the candidates will be completely dissected and every tic, smile, wrinkle, and unnatural hair curl or color will be analyzed ad nauseam.

And rightly so. Politics is war by other means (nod to von Clausewitz who put it inversely--"War is politics by...").

No kidding - I didn't vote for Trump twice because of his dashing good looks or charming personality. There are a lot more middle school girls posting here in FR than I'd have believed.

Regardless of how DeSantis' appearance was perceived, he and Ramaswamy apparently led the who-won-the-debate polling.

I recently had to get some professional photos done, and learned that if you want to look bold and confident, that instead of doing a toothy grin which ... lets face it, looks bad on any camera, instead you should squint a little with just a slight curl of the lips. If you look at ads and movies, that is how they have models and actors pose. I spent about 3 hours practicing it prior to the shoot and I agree, it makes a much better picture. Ron should have some image consultants that know a thing or two about how to pose for the camera. When you think of Trump, the picture that comes to mind for me is one of him with a slight scowl which makes me feel like he is ready to kick butt.

It is also said that Nixon was ahead of Kennedy in the polls until thier debate, and JFK had been coached by Hollywood and looked calm, cool and relaxed, whereas Nixon was sweating profusely, and looked disoriented, which as close as that election was, could have been the difference.
