DEARBORN, Mich (FOX 2) - Four teens who dined and dashed at a Dearborn restaurant turned themselves in after police used social media to look for them.
On Sunday the teens went to Red Sea Restaurant on Michigan Avenue.
"They got lobster tails, snow crab, shrimp, there were four," said Red Sea owner Suhail Mohammed. "They had a good amount of food."
But when they finished eating., no one at the table stayed around to pay the bill - which was about $400.00.
"They ran out so all of us we ran towards them but they were already in the car. I couldn’t get to them," said Liv, a server.
Dearborn police were called and arrived at the scene to investigate
But Liv who was serving the teens decided that in addition to a police investigation, something else might help locate the teens and their parents.
The restaurant gave its surveillance video of the teens dining and dashing to the police so it could be posted on the city of Dearborn’s Instagram site.
"Honestly if we had not done that we would have never found them," Liv said.
"Actually, in what I would say, 30 minutes the parents of the kids contacted the restaurant," said Mohammed. "They came here, apologized and they paid.
"They actually brought the kids and they made them apologize."
Despite the bill being nearly $400, the owner decided to give them a discount, knocking off half the price.
"They’re kids at the end and I looked at it like they're my kids doing that stuff," the owner said. "Me giving them that for 50% off on the bill, was just because they came back and stood up for the mistake that they did."

Actually, this is a huge thing a lot of Somalis do in restaurants in Minnesota. I’ve talked to a number of servers that say they always know it’s going to happen when they show up in large numbers, but there’s nothing they can do to stop it.
Should have received the full amount plus $100 each in-kind labor, picking up trash, etc in return for not pressing charges. Little snots .

Idiot owner. I wouldn’t take that big of an order without pre-approving their credit card or ask to see the cash.
He should had them work the other half off by cleaning the bathroom, floor and windows.
That was a very good act of parenting. I’m glad the owner acknowledged that good act. I have a feeling the parents aren’t going to be as easy on the yutes.
It sure beats the trend of the parents suing the owner for traumatizing their little cherubs.

From the article I was expecting to see a nice restaurant, not something that looks like Long John Silvers. Thanks to Biden it looks like the price of seafood has shyrocketed.

The comments about $400 being a bit much for seafood in an average looking place like that were appropriate. This doesn’t excuse not paying. It is more an indictment of the teens as consumers with poor judgement. But I guess that the price doesn’t matter much if you have no intention to pay.
It’s Dearborn. Their defense for dashing was that call to prayers sounded.

Lobster meat at my local supermarket last week was $37.00 p/lb. That’s in New Hampshire about 50 miles where it come off the boat.
The Google reviews are pretty good. It’s not a fancy place, but it’s not designed to be. Prices seem about normal. 50 bucks for a lobster. 22 for a lobster roll.
It’s clear based on the comments that some FReepers don’t eat out much. The prices at restaurants have increased dramatically. Doesn’t matter that it doesn’t look fancy. And male teenagers eat A LOT. Combine those two things and you get 400 bucks for a place that looks like that pretty easily.
The fact their parents called within 30 minutes of the videos airing and then came to pay and brought the kids to apologize says a lot. Bad poor parents wouldn’t care and bad rich parents might consult a lawyer. These folks just up and did the right thing.
With dubious customers, these restaurants need to ask for credit cards in advance. Same as MacDonald’s.
