Because, in a competition, you don’t stop until you have won.

I suppose that’s true. But Trump’s chance of being the 2024 GOP nominee has to be at least 80%. So at some point it’s time to withdraw resources (both financial and emotional) from the primary, and redeploy them to the general election.
